Family Vacation 2013 - Gulfport, MS

This year since we were only in our new home 6 days before vacation we opted to shorten it one day and keep it in Mississippi. We all needed a break from moving and unpacking boxes so a quick trip to Gulfport was just what we needed.  I was very nervous about heading to the MS Gulf coast, not because of hurricane Katrina but because of the casinos.  Thankfully Gulfport had only a few condos on the beach and pretty much water and sand to offer.  The piers are all still closed :( but there was a wonderful splash pad at the Marina and the seafood was wonderful.  Our hotel was super close to the water and had a cross walk right at the hotel.   The trip took around 6 hours and saved us around $1,500 from our usual Orange Beach location.  Great trip!  Marvin's out-ranked me and says mountains next year :)  So I am looking into Wilderness at the Smokies because its an indoor water park :)
